The Data Union Strategy will help the EU build high-quality, interoperable, and diverse datasets that are necessary for AI.

The strategy aims to ensure coherence between policies, infrastructures, and legal instruments on data. It will build on existing work to enable trusted cross-border data flows, support common data spaces and their links with the AI ecosystem, and ensure trust in data sharing.

President Ursula von der Leyen announced the Data Union Strategy in the political guidelines and it is a key part of Europe’s plans to become an AI continent. It will harness the potential of data to support the development of generative AI.

The Commission invites academia, researchers, and industry to provide their feedback to the consultation by 18 July
